A Fakebook is a musicians resource. Traditional paper Fakebooks consists of simple melody lines in standard notation sometimes with chords. There are thousands of fiddle tunes. Even the most accomplished fiddlers can only remember a few hundred at a time. Fakebooks allow fiddlers to access a larger repertoire of tunes than they can memorize.
Hetzler's Fakebook goes one step farther. You can hear the tune and play along. Learning new tunes is much easier and it provides a ready practice resource. If you use a program like Notation Musician (recommended), you can adjust tempo, mute voices, change key and print sheet music directly from the tunes in Hetzler's Fakebook.
All of the titles in Hetzler's Fakebook are in the public domain. They date from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. This collection represents a small part of the traditional fiddle repertoire of North America. There are currently 548 tunes in the collection.
Improve your rhythm, phrasing, and intonation. Learn new tunes. Practice tunes you already know. The MIDI are intended for use with a variable tempo MIDI player such as Notation Musician that allows you to mute voices, change key and create lead sheets.
