Many of the tunes on this site I learned in the late eighties and early nineties playing with the Lancaster Folk Song Society in Lancaster, PA, the Full Circle Music Society in Reading, PA, the Brandywine Dulcimer Fellowship in Wilmington, DE, the Wisdom's Friday Night Jam in Bryn Mawr, PA and Roaring Jelly, a Boston, MA based Contra Dance Band.
I took a leave of absence from work after my first wife, Carole, died of cancer in March 2001. I spent it playing music taking walks with my dog and putting this site together. These activities proved more satisfying than working in the corporate world so I made my leave permanent. I re-married in 2002, started a small business and formed a new band..
Hetzler's Fakebook went live on August 27, 2000 as an Alta Vista Community Page. It had 14 tunes, three pages and 0.3 Gig of bandwidth. Visitors were few and far between. My friends thought I was crazy for investing time and effort into something as obscure as traditional fiddle music.
From those humble beginnings eight years ago the site and has grown to include 566 tunes,15 Gig of bandwidth per month and average over 200,000 page views per year.
When you can hear the music, adjust the tempo and see it written out you will learn faster. These things helped me and I hope they will help you.
